Abstract

In woodwind instruments, the principal oscillating element is the air. The oscillation of the air stream within the wind instrument (tube) produces and propagates sound within the surrounding environment. Labial wind instruments exhibit a distinctive mode of sound production, characterised by a number of specific patterns in the implementation of this process. This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the conditions necessary for the occurrence of periodic oscillation in these instruments, the characteristics of the oscillation itself, and the methods employed to manage, maintain, and control the vibration.
