THE TOOLS FOR ASSESSMENT OF RISK OF FALLS IN THE ELDERLY AND OLD PEOPLE TO HELP PHYSIOTHERAPISTS

Abstract

Aging is associated with many health challenges. Globally, falls in the elderly appear to be a serious public health problem due to their high incidence, negative impact on health status and quality of life, and high treatment costs. Fall risk assessment tools have the potential to accurately quantify the risk of falls and provide a solid basis for making decisions about interventions that may be effective in reducing the likelihood of falling. The report presents some of the most applied fall risk assessment tools: Berg Balance Scale, Home FAST, Timed Up and Go Test (TUG), Romberg Test and others. Physical activity is important as a means of counteracting premature aging by maintaining the aging organism at the highest possible structural and functional level. The experienced physiotherapist focuses specifically on training balance, strength and coordination through individual therapeutic exercises. Through prevention, including testing, information about risk factors and physical activity, the goal is to reduce falls and their consequences, and encourage older people to age in good health.
