MENAGEMENT STYLES IN MEDICAL PRACTICE THROUGH THE EYES OF HEALTH CARE MANAGEMENT MASTERS STUDENTS
Abstract
Leadership in healthcare institutions plays an important role in achieving positive outcomes and providing quality healthcare. This report surveyed first-year students in a Master's program in Health Care Management. They are tasked to indicate the best and worst leader they have met in their practice and accordingly his approach in a given situation or in general. The results are provided in writing, in the form of free text in response to structured questions. The opinion of the respondents is summarized through descriptive analysis and presented through relative shares. The results show that good leaders mainly apply a democratic style of management, while bad leaders apply an autocratic style. According to the respondents, authoritarian rule is not effective in any of the cases. In the absence of management experience, almost all of them believe that they would apply democratic management according to the situation.
