Abstract

The paper presents the status of Greenland as a geopolitical case study in which the interests of the USA, Denmark, the EU and indirectly of Russia and China intersect. The stages in Greenland's self-determination are examined chronologically and the interests of the USA in annexing the island state are highlighted. Current sociological surveys among the Greenlandic population are presented, reflecting persistent resistance to the US proposals and the aspirations of the local inhabitants to preserve their own identity and economic independence.
