STUDY AND ANALYSIS OF THE SPATIAL DIMENSION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF THE URBAN ENVIRONMENT IN THE DRUZHBA 2 RESIDENTIAL COMPLEX IN THE CITY OF RUSE PREPARED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE EUROPEAN REFERENCE FRAMEWORK FOR SUSTAINABLE CITIES (RFSC)
Abstract
In this article, the current situation in the urbanized zone is examined using the urban sustainability indicators established in the European Reference Framework for Sustainable Cities (RFSC). The spatial dimension is analyzed in order to (1) determine the extent to which the sustainability criteria are met in the territorial planning of the urban environment in the Druzhba 2 residential complex in the city of Ruse and (2) review global best practices and propose effective, context-appropriate recommendations for more ecological, socially inclusive, efficient, and sustainable urban planning in this area.
Data for this analysis were collected using the European Reference Framework for Sustainable Cities (RFSC). The study is based on original field observations and a survey conducted among the neighborhood’s residents. The research findings are presented as qualitative ordinal variables after aggregating the numerical values of the criteria. The report also highlights innovative solutions from the past two decades within the globally recognized model of urban sustainability in Stockholm, Sweden.
