THE NEGATIVE IMPACT OF THE ARTIFICIAL LIGHTING IN URBANIZED AREAS
Abstract
The paper analyzes the leading problems related to the negative impact of artificial lighting, which disrupts the development of smart cities. In this regard, there has been proposed four individual approaches dedicated to the light pollution issue. First, there has been defined the harmful effects caused by the artificial lighting. Second, there has been proposed a classification of the negative impact of artificial lighting. Third, a system for assessing light pollution in urbanized areas is proposed. Fourth, a system of six types of artificial light management measures have been defined in the context of reducing of the light pollution impact. The results section includes a quantitative assessment of the light pollution in the Republic of Bulgaria.
