Abstract

The article reviews the potential areas of application of nanotechnology in water treatment and the possibilities for obtaining composite materials that can be applied for adsorbents in wastewater treatment from various pollutants. The focus is on nanostructured materials, due to their porosity and higher surface-to-volume ratio. Scientific teams report on the functionalization of graphene oxide and the preparation of composite materials with a very high surface-to-volume ratio, excellent stability and enhanced active centers. Through a combinatorial approach, combining the advantages of nanotechnology and classical methods from silicate technology, new and composite materials can be synthesized that combine the unique functional properties of nanomaterials with the properties of ceramic materials.
