Abstract

The paper reviews the emissions characteristics of a spark ignition (acronym-SI) engine fuelled with gasoline port injection and isopropanol-n-butanol-ethanol (acronym IBE) direct injection. The intermediate fermentation product IBE is considered as a potential candidate for alternative fuel to be blended with gasoline. In order to achieve maximum efficiency, highest power output and lowest exhaust emissions different mixture ratios between IBE and gasoline have to be used according to different engine working conditions (load, rpm range and temperature). Via using dual fuel injection method, different fuel mixture ratios can be achieved directly by the fuel injection system and premixing of fuels can be avoided. Using a dual fuel inection system can reduce some of the components of the harmful exhaust emissions.
